SBA Certified Tribally-Owned 8(a)

This program is a business development tool that offers opportunities for American Indian tribes.
Under the 8(a) program, Congress granted tribes with unique rights in the federal procurement process. These rights provide federal agencies with strong incentives to contract with tribal enterprises. Tribes do have special procurement privileges. There are many reasons for this. However, an important perspective is that often times the proceeds from tribally owned companies are used for the benefit of the entire tribal citizens, rather than individual owners. Tribes use these proceeds to build, sustain and operate their communities – for the betterment of education, health care, public works and other community sustaining activities.
